Great Lakes Surf Shop owners Brian and Melanie LeFeve have been teaching on the Great Lakes for over 15 years and are the sole owners Great Lakes Surf Shop. The surf shop located in St. Clair Shores and it’s the sister to his Kiteboarding school in East Tawas which has been running for 11 years. Their background includes a plethora of experience in and out of the water. Great Lakes Surf and Kite instructors are personally trained by Brian and Melanie, including yoga, surf, and racing techniques. Brian lives and breathes water sports and was recently (in 35 degree weather) surfing 8ft waves in Lake Huron. If the water isn’t frozen, Brian’s in it.
One draw back that we’ve discovered in our 15+ years of teaching water sports, is this: If not shown properly, the rider may get discouraged and inevitably give up. Some folks never need instruction, learning the sport on their own, paddling casually without the need for further direction. However those interested in learning proper productive paddling techniques or those who are considering racing, yoga, surfing or even just a quick lesson on how to get started, need time with an experienced instructor. We are finding a huge demand for this type of instruction as this sport continues to grow on the Great Lakes.
Great Lakes Surf offers the following classes that we are thrilled to teach right here on Lake St. Clair.
The Basics of Paddleboarding:
- Techniques, paddle strokes, water safety, and equipment guidance
SUP Yoga:
- Basic yoga poses, breathing techniques, core balance practice
SUP Fitness:
- Proper stretching before paddling, core balance, exercise techniques on and off the water
Rentals:
- Board and paddle rentals available any time

Simple Adventures is a locally owned and operated business based out of St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Their home launch is located off of 9 mile and Jefferson and is situated on the edge of Lake St. Clair. They have partnered with the Clinton River Watershed Council and Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy to offer their customers access to the Clinton River, and with the No Child Left Inside Coalition of Michigan to encourage families to get outside and get kayaking!
They have also partnered with the Lake St. Clair Metropark and the DNR of Michigan to provide an “Intro to Kayaking” course as a part of the Recreation 101 program.
Their boats are inspected regularly by the Macomb County Marine Sheriff Division, and they are dedicated to providing their customers with a fun and safe way to explore the beauty of Lake St. Clair.
Rates:
They take pride in providing the best service possible at the lowest price possible. They provide a variety of rates to accomodate every adventure. Their goal is to bring awareness to our waterways, and they think there is no better way than to spend an afternoon out on one of Michigan’s hidden treasures. Their home locations are out of both Lake St. Clair Metropark and the 9 Mile Chapaton Boat Launch. They are always open to new locations, and happy to deliver to anywhere in Macomb County!
Each rental includes: delivery and pick-up, a life jacket and paddle and a dry bag.

Week & Weekend Packages – $100.00 for 3 days and $150.00 for 5 days.

They charge $35.00 for your demo and will apply it towards your purchase of a kayak or gear.
